Description
Mealworms are the larvae of the darkling beetle (Tenebrio molitor). A significant source of fat and protein, most exotic pets will eagerly snap them up. Mealworms measure about an inch on average, making them a suitable feeder insect for nearly any size exotic pet (including geckos and other lizards, tarantulas, turtles, and tree frogs.)
Most reptile nutrition experts agree that lizards should not be fed a diet composed entirely of mealworms because of their low calcium content and tough exoskeleton which can contribute to gut impaction. However mealworms are an economical way to supplement your reptile’s diet in addition to other feeder insects such as dubia roaches.
Mealworm Shipping Information
We ship our live mealworms fully contained within sturdy deli cups with lid (perforated for proper air flow), and supplied with food for the journey. These are packed securely within a priority mail (or similar) box. The porous nature of paper and cardboard packaging provides plenty of oxygen for insects; they do not require air holes in the boxes.
Shipping rates and destinations: We ship superworms ONLY to the lower 48 states, EXCEPT for Florida. Sorry, we do NOT ship internationally or to Hawaii, Alaska, or Florida.
We ship via USPS Priority Mail. While not guaranteed, Priority packages usually arrive within 2-3 days once your order has shipped.
Live Mealworms Guarantee Policy
We guarantee live delivery of mealworms and other feeder insects under normal weather conditions (en route temperatures between 40-80º). Any damage or DOA claims must be submitted via email within 24 hours of receipt of the package, accompanied by clear photos of the damage and packaging. We are not responsible for delays caused by the postal carrier or for any injury or damage to persons or property caused or thought to be caused by the insects we ship once they have left our facility.
IMPORTANT:
To activate your guarantee, we require that you have your packages held at your local post office for pickup during hot or cold weather (en route temperatures below 40º or above 80º). This minimizes exposing your mealworms to the overly hot or cold conditions that can occur in a postal delivery truck or front porch. Please notify us if you wish us to mark your packages “hold at post office.”
Winter Shipping
Being located in upper Michigan, we will be shipping in cool weather much of the year. When temperatures are expected to dip below 40° F, we automatically include a heat pack with each order. In colder weather we also include foil lining in the box. We may at times suspend shipping temporarily due to extreme weather conditions. When this happens we will notify you of the delay via email.
